UFO History

The term "flying saucer" entered popular culture in 1947 after pilot Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine unidentified objects flying near Mount Rainier. He described their motion as "like a saucer skipping across water" which journalists misinterpreted as their shape coining the phrase "flying saucer."

Just weeks later, the Roswell Incident in Roswell intensified public fascination. Although officially explained as a weather balloon, many believed it involved extraterrestrial technology, fueling decades of speculation.

During the 1950s and 60s, sightings surged, especially in the United States. Governments responded with investigations like Project Blue Book, which examined thousands of reports but found no conclusive evidence of alien spacecraft.

The classic saucer shape became iconic through media, films, and pulp magazines, even though many sightings described other forms. Over time, "flying saucer" evolved into the broader term UFO (Unidentified Flying Object), now often replaced by UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena).

Today, flying saucers remain a cultural symbol of extraterrestrial life, blending eyewitness reports, government secrecy theories, and science fiction imagination into one enduring mystery.
